Facebook Insights: Finding The Best Time To Post

Facebookinsightstiming

In today’s social media world, it’s more important than ever to reach out to your fans. You work hard cultivating your fan base and you should do everything in your power to communicate with them. With the powers that be over at Facebook, they’ve started making it harder and harder for you to do so. But that’s no excuse! Just because your fan page’s reach is stinking, that doesn’t mean you can’t do something about it. Facebook gives you a wealth of information, right at your fingertips, to help you make better and more timely posts. On every fan page (with 30 or more fans) you have access to the Insights tab, which is where you’ll find this treasure trove of info. Today I’m going to focus on determining when to post your expertly crafted status update.

The one key to remember, for any important post, is that you will gain 90% of your reach (the number of people who see your post) within the first 30 minutes. Determining when the highest number of your fans are online is critical. Up in the top right-hand corner, you will see the “See Insights” button. Click on that and then click the “Posts” tab. Once that page loads, at the very top is a breakdown of when your fans are online. Assuming you do not have a time-sensitive post, the best time to post a status update or announcement is when the most people (on average) are online. This changes from day to day, so once you find a sweet spot for Monday, don’t expect the same results for Friday or Saturday. Run your mouse over the day tabs and you can get a view of each individual day of the week, so you can plan for the rest of the week.

That just one of the many insights that Facebook provides you to help you increase your reach. Even if you start posting to your business’ page and haven’t noticed an increase in engagement, keep trying, there’s a sweet spot there somewhere. Every page is different and every audience is different. There is no equation to determine the perfect time or the perfect type of update to reach the most of your fans. Keep testing and you’ll begin to notice your reach go higher and higher!

Strong Passwords Are More Important Than Ever

It’s hard to remember every password you’re currently using. Sometimes I sit and stare at a blank login screen for a couple of minutes before I remember that long string of characters and numbers. Sometimes I’m tempted to use the worst password of all time (“password”) just until I can come up with a better one. I’m just as guilty as anyone for using low-quality passwords to protect some important information. This includes my email, bank accounts, and even my social media accounts.

With the Heartbleed bug out there and surely, there are other security breaches that we don’t know about, it’s always a great idea to change your password to something super-strong. Something that a computer couldn’t guess in a a thousand years.

Bad Passwordspassword-security

  • password
  • drowssap (“password” backwards)
  • 06141978 (birthdays)
  • DallasCowboys (sports teams)

Good Passwords

  • hbdc#89.72
  • d@4$kl^j2
  • %829u*87J
  • #e32J9J(JJj

Those good passwords look like gibberish, I know, but using random characters along with letters and numbers truly cuts down on identity theft. Here are a few tips on how to make the perfect password.

1. The best passwords are a completely random mix of numbers, letters and characters
2. At least 6 characters long. Anything shorter is not very strong at all.
3. No identifying words or phrases. (That means no references to your birthday or place of birth.)
4. A good mix of lowercase and uppercase letters.
5. Throw in some special characters and punctuation.

I know it’s tough when you’re setting up an account or being forced to change your password, to come up with an original one or not use a previous one, but you must resist the urge to continue using the same 4-5 passwords. I’m also guilty of writing down my passwords, which is a bad idea, simply because, if someone were to get a hold of my “password book”, it could mean serious problems for me.

I’ve considered using a password “wallet” program (such as Password Genie or LastPass) to help me remember all of those logins. The best thing about a password program is that they are encrypted, so if someone were to be able to hack into and read the contents of your computer, they still cannot read your passwords.

If you’re still having trouble coming up with a strong password, I recommend StrongPasswordGenerator.com. They’ll give you a great password and the mnemonic so you can remember it. Give it a shot!

Identities are stolen everyday and as long as we are dependent on the internet for our essential details (emails, banks, social media), there will be thieves out there wanting access. Stop them in their tracks by changing all of your passwords today.

Template-Based vs Custom-Built Websites

Template vs Custom Websites

Most web hosts out on the internet give you the ability to create a website using their proprietary template-based website building software. This can be a great tool for putting up a quick website in lieu of a fully-functional custom built one. But don’t fall into the trap of thinking your simple, easy-to-put-together temporary site is good enough for the long haul. There are a few drawbacks to making a template-based site the online representation of your company.

Potential look-alikes

When you use a simple website builder, you are only given a limited number of options as to how your website will look. We’ve actually encountered 2 websites that looked identical (save for the name of the company), and the kicker is that they were in the same industry, in the same city! Same stock photos and same template. You want your website to stand out and be recognizable as your own. When a potential client goes to your website, they need to know they are in the right place.

Ownership

As I mentioned earlier, website builders can provide you with a temporary residence for your business on the web. Another downside of using them as a long term solution is that the hosting company or service that provides the website builder owns it. Your website that you spent hours creating, is not your property. If you ever decide to change hosts or get out of paying a monthly service charge, you cannot take your website with you. It will have to be remade from scratch and more than likely would not look anything like the original. When you purchase a custom built website, you own it and can transfer it between hosts and never lose any functionality or features of your site.

Customization

If you currently have a website that is template based, you should know this all too well. Templates are just that. There is no room for making pictures bigger, adding text where necessary, or even adding multiple pages (some templates only allow 5 pages). Don’t settle on your website design. It’s a direct representation of your business and if it’s not exactly how you want it, then you shouldn’t have to settle for second best.

When you’re ready to take control over the look and feel of your website, we can make it happen. Contact us today!

Newest Additions: Compton’s Carpet

comptonsscreenshot

So, let’s face it. Our carpets are dirty. I’m sure there’s a study out there that shows the percentage of allergies caused by them. You walk on your carpet after walking outside, in the grass, up the stairs, through the parking lot. Just think about everything you stepped in and now it’s in your carpet. Kids play, dogs roll around, food is spilled, all on your carpet. Sure, you can vacuum and get the crumbs and dirt off of the top of your floors, but that doesn’t even touch the stuff that’s been pushed deep into the fibers. That’s when you need Compton’s Carpet to come out and clean them for you. They have special machines that deep clean your carpets and bring it back as close to new as possible. Even in the event that you have a water leak and your carpet is soaked, they can get the water out and restore your carpets. They can even clean and sanitize your hard wood floors and clean the tile and grout lines on your bathroom and kitchen floors. Compton’s is also a certified fire and smoke restoration expert. They can help you return your home and furnishings to a “pre-loss” condition. If that’s not enough, they can also clean that mattress you’ve had for years, rugs, drapes, air ducts and much more! Give them a call today and get the dirt out.
